Zhuge Liang's Thatched-Roof Theatre in Xiangyang — Asia's Largest Bamboo-Decorated Theatre

Longzhong in Xiangyang, Hubei, is where Zhuge Liang, the legendary strategist of the Three Kingdoms period, once lived in seclusion — and the birthplace of the famous "Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage." The Zhuge Liang Thatched-Roof Theatre built here is one of China's most iconic Three Kingdoms-themed performance venues, with a total floor area of 11,800 square meters. Yueteng Bamboo Culture delivered the bamboo decoration of this "Asia's largest thatched-roof theatre," recreating the imagery of a humble grass cottage in raw bamboo craft and turning cultural heritage into tangible architectural language.

As a large-scale steel-frame structure with bamboo decoration, the project demanded exceptional material performance and construction precision. We applied our patented anti-insect, anti-mold, anti-corrosion and crack-resistant treatments to every bamboo element, then completed the detailed design and installation of extensive bamboo cladding over the steel structure — ensuring safety and durability while creating a warm, rustic and theatrically dramatic interior. At night, the illuminated theatre is reflected in the lake against the hills, making it the most recognizable cultural landmark of the Longzhong scenic area.
